Cymru & Pennsylvania Connections is dedicated to fostering relationships between the people of Wales and Pennsylvania. Our mission is to promote cultural understanding, stimulate business associations, and assist individuals in Pennsylvania in discovering their Welsh ancestry.
The connection between Wales and Pennsylvania has been established since the 16th century. Now is the time to bring the connection together again.
This is the goal of CAPCA !
To cultivate connections that celebrate and honour the significant ties between Wales and Pennsylvania through business opportunities, cultural events and ancestral support.
A vibrant community where businesses, individuals and families can explore Welsh connections, heritage, engage in cultural exchange, and build professional relationships that benefit both regions.
The rich history of Welsh emigration to Pennsylvania dates back to the Quaker era in the late 17th century. Quaker leaders, such as William Penn, invited families from Wales seeking religious freedom and economic opportunity. They were drawn to Pennsylvania’s promise of a better life, and many settled in regions like Philadelphia and the Welsh Tract, established specifically for Welsh settlers.
During the Industrial Era, Pennsylvania became a hub for Welsh immigrants once more, particularly in the iron, and anthracite coal mining industries. The demand for labour drew thousands of Welsh men and women, who brought with them their skills and traditions, shaping the economic landscape of Pennsylvania. The contributions of the Welsh community played a vital role in the industrial revolution in the U.S., impacting not only Pennsylvania but also the broader narrative of American industry.
Events: Join us for cultural festivals, heritage celebrations, and other community events that highlight Welsh and American traditions.
Business Directory: Access a directory of Welsh and Pennsylvania businesses seeking cross Atlantic ties. (under construction)
There are a number of already established heritage festivals – CAPCA will further develop and grow the activities with forthcoming significant events on the horizon in the coming years ahead.
Networking Events: Attend events focused on creating connections between Welsh entrepreneurs and Pennsylvania businesses.
Resource Support: The association can follow up leads to Welsh ancestral roots, providing pictures of historical birthplaces, and organise transport and stays in Wales for those wishing to explore the country.
Community Support: Connect with others on similar journeys and share research tips and experiences.
